Auckland City Council: Economic Development

Creative Industries

Auckland city is home to many of New Zealand's fashion designers, education providers, manufacturers, retail outlets, and of course, New Zealand Fashion Week. Recognising the important contribution the fashion industry makes to the city's economy, Auckland City Council is proud to sponsor Fashion Industry New Zealand (FINZ) as the industry's leading voice.

The council aims to create a more productive economy, delivering high value solutions to global markets by being innovative and creative. The creative industries are a key area of focus in achieving these goals, and council is leading the way with in-depth research, and its action plan, Blueprint: Growing Auckland's Creative Industries

Of New Zealand's creative sector workforce, 39 per cent is located in Auckland city, compared with the city's 17 per cent share of the country's overall workforce. The creative sector's stand-alone contribution to Auckland city's GDP is estimated at over $1.7 billion for 2006 - evidently creative industries make a significant contribution to the city's economy.

Within the creative industries, the design sector is the largest employer, and the fashion industry is an important sub-sector incorporating areas such as design, advertising and photography, as well as involving other key sectors for the city such as manufacturing.

We recognise the vital economic, cultural and creative contribution the fashion industry gives our city and we are proud to support Fashion Industry New Zealand.

Ecostore

Not only is ecostore laundry powder kinder to your clothes and the environment, it's also safer for your family's health. The harsh chemicals found in conventional laundry detergents can be absorbed by the skin, causing irritations, asthma and allergies, particularly on the sensitive skin of children.

ecostore's laundry powder is a high performance plant and mineral based concentrated powder with good honest ingredients (fillers and bulkers), which are gentle on clothes and skin. ecostore laundry powder also has the ability to lift stubborn stains making it great for everyday use or heavily soiled fabrics. It has a fresh, clean, natural lemon fragrance and works well in a range of water temperatures. Offering great value, 1kg of ecostore laundry powder averages 25 washes, costing less per wash than many commercial supermarket brands.
