Eco Man's Top Tips to Green Up this Winter
(New Zealand) - June 2009
ecostore founder Malcolm Rands, A.K.A ‘Eco Man’, says it’s imperative we look after our environment no matter what the season. There are lots of easy ways to minimise the impact we have on the planet and winter time is no exception.
Here are three easy Eco Man tips on how to green up your home this winter ...
Insulate - it’ll keep you warm and save you money
When you heat your home, a considerable amount is lost through the walls and roof of your home. If you don’t already have insulation, consider investing in it when you do your next home renovation. It’s energy efficient so it saves you money and reduces your carbon footprint.
Get composting - even if you don’t have a garden
Ideally this should be done throughout the year but if you haven’t started yet, now’s the time. Rather than sending organic matter down InSinkErators or adding them to landfill, invest in a compost bin like Can-O-Worms, available at ecostore’s Auckland store or online: www.ecostore.co.nz
Grow your own
Now that you’re composting, enjoy some winter gardening by planting some broccoli, red lettuce and spinach. Or, ease into your new sustainable lifestyle by planting a few easy winter herbs such as parsley and coriander. The more we grow our own, the more we eat locally and cut down our food miles. Fresh really is best.
