Fashion Export Scholarship Launches in Australia
(New Zealand) - May 2010
On the back of its successful collaboration with Fashion Industry New Zealand (FINZ), DHL Express is launching another Fashion Export Scholarship in Australia. The award, which will be open to Australia designers who have been exporting for less than four years, aims to help them achieve international growth with a prize of international freight to the value of AU$10,000.
Stolen Girlfriends Club, winner of the inaugural New Zealand scholarship, utilised its winnings in part to send sample garments to international showrooms and prospective buyers rather than just look-books, which it perceives as a distinct advantage.
“The last two years have been amazing,” says Dan Gosling, director of Stolen Girlfriends Club. “We have taken our label all over the world and seen our clothes on the backs of some influential celebrities, musicians and style icons, including Beyonce, Juliette Lewis and Agyness Deyn.”
Over the past 12 months, Stolen Girlfriends Club doubled its exports to Australia, achieving NZ$400,000 in sales through new and existing accounts. Having secured select key retailers in the U.S, the company has also entered key export markets in Asia and the Middle East, with sales to Hong Kong, Japan and Dubai totalling NZ$200,000. Not to mention appointing an established PR and sales agent in the U.K, where the brand has been picked-up by Liberte and global e-retailer ASOS.
