Call for Nominations to the FINZ Board (2010/11)

Nominations to the board of Fashion Industry New Zealand (FINZ) are now open ...

FINZ is seeking positive, proactive, forward-thinking people, who are willing to volunteer the time, energy and expertise required for the organisation to accomplish its strategic goals and realise its full potential.

Being a board member can be challenging and demanding at times, but it is always rewarding. So, if you have the skills to help take FINZ to the next level and assist the industry that it serves, please complete and return a nomination form by 5.00pm on Friday, 12 March, 2010.

 

FINZ is the ‘voice’ of New Zealand’s fashion and apparel industry. The non-profit organisation was founded ‘by the industry’ in 2002, to provide representation and support ‘for the industry’.

“Our mission is to ensure the future growth and development of the fashion and apparel industry, and to see it valued for its economic, creative and cultural contribution to New Zealand.”

 

Who is eligible?

All FINZ members are eligible candidates for nomination to the board.

The ‘nominator’ must be a FINZ member in good standing.

If elected, the 'nominee' must also be a FINZ member in good standing before actively serving on board.

How do I make a nomination?

Please complete and return the official ‘nomination form’ by 5.00pm on Friday, 12 March, 2010.

The ‘nominee’ will also need to attach a brief summary of their training, skills and experience.

When will the election be held?

The election will be held on Monday, 15 March, 2010. Votes are cast by FINZ’ founding trustees and existing board members, which serves to ensure the continuity of the organisation.

Nominees will be informed of the outcome by email directly following the election. And, the board for 2010/11 will be formally announced at the FINZ AGM.

NB: The FINZ AGM will be held in Auckland at 4.30pm-5.30pm on Thursday, 18 March, 2010. Invitations will be circulated shortly.

What is FINZ looking for?

FINZ is seeking positive, proactive, forward-thinking people, who are willing to volunteer the time, energy and expertise required for the organisation to accomplish its strategic goals and realise its full potential.

The board should also be representative of the various sectors of New Zealand’s fashion and apparel industry.

 

What are the duties of a board member?

As an industry organisation, the role of the FINZ board is to professionally represent and promote New Zealand’s fashion and apparel sector, while working to ensure its future growth and development.

As a board member, you would be required to …

  • Regularly attend and fully participate in monthly board meetings.
  • Bring your training, skills and experience to all board decisions.
  • Provide support and objective input regarding the strategic goals of the organisation.
  • Provide support and objective input regarding the activities of the organisation.
  • Set policy and guidelines for day-to-day operations.
  • Provide assistance and sound advice to key staff.
  • Ensure that business is carried out in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Uphold the credibility of the organisation with members, sponsors, funding bodies, associated organisations, industry, government and media.

 

What is the commitment in terms of time?

If elected, you would be required to serve on the board for a one-year term, with the possibility of re-election for subsequent terms.

You would also be required to attend and fully participate in FINZ board meetings, which are held from 4.30pm – 6.30pm on the first Wednesday of each month in Auckland.

You may also be asked to volunteer additional time and energy in other areas ...

  • Serving as chairman of the board.
  • Serving on a FINZ project committee.
  • Serving as a FINZ mentor – (in-keeping with your areas of expertise).
  • Serving as a speaker at a FINZ event.
  • Attending specific FINZ events.
  • Providing content for FINZ publications.

On average, you could expect to dedicate 3 – 8 hours to FINZ each month, depending on your individual level of commitment and any additional voluntary activities.
