WoolOn
(New Zealand) - May 2010
Entries are now open for WoolOn, a fashion design competition that encourages the creative use of New Zealand’s high quality wool, showcasing its versatility as well as the craftsmanship and techniques that can be applied to it. Every garment must contain a minimum of 50 percent sheep’s wool, with an awards event to be held on October 9 in Alexandra, Central Otago.
Launched as part of the Contact Alexandra Blossom Festival in 2006, WoolOn has become a sell-out event, attracting entries from designers, weavers, felters, knitters and artists throughout New Zealand. This year’s judging panel will include Arrowtown-based fashion designer, Tamsin Cooper.
The supreme winner will be chosen from seven categories – streetwear, knitwear, felted, creative, special occasion, accessories, and young designer; the latter of which is restricted to secondary school students.
