Security Checks & Delays on the Rise

(New Zealand_Geoff Merz) - 06 August, 2007

There are no short-cuts if your container is stopped for X-ray or an MAF check of contents. Delays in actually booking these examinations has increased by up to three days, with any additional cartage costs and container detention or handling fees being charged to the account of the importer or exporter. Pre-warning of container stops is also minimal.

For international travelers, airport security will be a lot tighter. Luggage checks and delays are increasing as board control becomes more connected with the world than ever before. You need to be aware that all luggage is X-rayed in-and-out of airports. And, you need to be aware of the rules and requirements of those forms you fill out on the aircraft.

New Zealand Customs has also advised that it will start a new round of audits on apparel and footwear imports from July 1, 2007.
