2012: A Year of Change
[FINZfeatures] _ Twenty-twelve is shaping-up as a year of change, particularly on the retail front, as three of New Zealand’s leading designer fashion brands bid farewell to High Street and prepare to relocate their long-established flagship stores to Britomart, Auckland’s new luxury precinct.
Early next month, Kate Sylvester, WORLD and Zambesi will make the relatively short yet significant move downtown to the Seafarers Building on Tyler Street, leaving behind them “rising rents” and “the lack of foresight by landlords” who “maybe didn’t notice what the reality of retail is at the moment”, as reported by the NZ Herald.

It's Academic

[FEATURE] _ By Lisa Lloyd-Taylor | Academic research is central to teaching at tertiary level and this is equally true in fashion. Whilst drawing, designing, pattern-cutting, construction and written subjects, such as history and theory and well recognised within the curriculum, these must now be supplemented and supported by the professional knowledge gained via research.

Defining a New Zealand Aesthetic
[FASHION EDUCATION] _ An academic research paper, presented by Lisa Lloyd-Taylor and Mandy Smith [AUT] at the 2009 FINZ Education Conference:
' ... The New Zealand designer fashion industry is attributed as creating value for its economy and identity for its country. In the 10 years since its recognition, a plethora of reports by government agencies have encouraged the growth of the creative industries and awareness of the value design presents both aesthetically and as a business tool ...'

2011 AUT Rookie Show
BY MAPIHI OPAI
[EVENTS] _ The 2011 AUT Rookie Show, held this evening at Shed 10 on Queens Wharf, was the best to date. This time they upped the ante with A-grade production values and a curated programme; not every graduate made it to the runway. It's a ballsy move that will have its detractors no doubt, but one that finds favour with industry, because the front row resembled something from Fashion Week.

New Zealand radio and television host, Wallace Chapman, has combined his passion for photography, urban landscapes and people watching in a new website, Street and City Photos, which documents street-style in Auckland and Wellington.

A long-time patron of public transport, the political commentator says the concept stems from hours spent gazing at the canvas of the street and faces of the city.

DIY Approach Innovative, But Limiting(NZTE)
A new report commissioned by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise looks at why New Zealand can be so innovative, but enjoys only mediocre economic performance. Kiwi cultural traits that inhibit international business include the belief that we can and should do it all ourselves, as well as the fact that we rate leisure pursuits above wealth accumulation.

Business Growth: Maximising the Value of Your Business
By WHK

With 62 percent of New Zealand business owners now aged 50-and-over, and 45 percent looking to sell in the near future, there's a huge need for effective succession planning. But, only 11 percent have a strategy for exiting their businesses.

"Basically, if you don't get it right, you don't have the level of security in retirement that you would hope for. Without effective planning, you won't realise the real value of the business."

Intellectual Property: Does That Domain Name Really Belong To You?

By the end of 2009, there were an estimated 192,000,000 registered domain names. If you're the registrant of one of these, you may think that you own your domain name. But, that's not the case. As the body responsible for the global administration of domain names, ICANN is effectively the 'owner' of all domain names.
