The Rules & Regulations

James & Wells: Fashion Communication Design Award / 2011


The award is open to New Zealand fashion designers and brands.
The applicant ...
  • Must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be trading commercially and producing seasonal clothing collections.
  • The Applicant must submit an official application form, with a portfolio of work attached.
  • The Applicant will be notified by email that the application has been received and whether it is eligible for consideration.
  • Only one application is permitted per person.
  • The Organiser takes no responsibility for late or lost applications.
    Any material submitted must be the Applicant’s own original work and not breach any copyright or other intellectual property rights whatsoever.
  • The Applicant must have the consent of any other intellectual property rights owners before submitting works that have been commissioned and/or created collaboratively.


  • Applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges, including a representative of the Organiser and the Sponsor.
  • The judging panel will select three finalists, including the recipient of the Award.
  • The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The Applicant will be notified by email of the judges’ decision. And, the winner will be announced at a function in Auckland on March 21, 2011.


  • The Award will culminate in an Exhibition of the three finalists’ work in Auckland, which will be open to the public during the NZ Fashion Festival.
  • Any or all Applicants may be asked to provide additional information to the Curators of the Exhibition, who will also produce an academic research paper based the Award programme.
  • The three finalists will be required to attend the opening of the Exhibition on March 21, 2011, in Auckland, where the recipient of the award will be officially announced.


The recipient of the award will receive ...

  • Intellectual property services to the value of NZ$5,000 (excluding official filing fees or other disbursements) from James & Wells Intellectual Property.
  • An annual membership subscription from Fashion Industry New Zealand.
  • Prizes are valid from April 1, 2011 (to) March 31, 2012.
  • Prizes must be taken as stated and cannot be deferred.
  • There will be no cash alternatives.

The three finalists will receive ...

  • Their respective printed works from the Exhibition courtesy of Blue Star.


  • The Applicant will be deemed to have accepted these rules and regulations, and agree to be bound by them upon applying for this Award.
  • It is acknowledged that the Applicant consents to the Organiser’s and Sponsor’s use of his or her name, likeness, voice and biographical information, as well as photographs and video footage captured throughout the judging and presentation of the Award, for promotional purposes in perpetuity, in any media worldwide, without obtaining any prior approval from the Applicant.
  • The Organiser and the Sponsor reserve the right to cancel the Award at any stage, or change the rules and procedures if deemed necessary in their opinion, or if circumstances arise outside of their control.
  • The Applicant will at all times indemnify and hold harmless, and defend the Organiser and the Sponsor from all losses, cost claims (including legal fees) and causes of action arising out of, or in connection with, the Award.
  • The Award is not open to employees or contractors of James & Wells Intellectual Property, any person directly or indirectly involved in James & Wells Intellectual Property, or their direct family members.


I have read the rules and regulations of the James & Wells: Fashion Communication Design Award and agree to abide by them.

Should I be successful in my application, I also agree to take part in any publicity that may arise from the Award.

Fashion Industry New Zealand is hereby referred to as 'the Organiser'.

James & Wells Intellectual Property is hereby referred to as 'the Sponsor'.
